1861 Strathmartine

Death of Lady Jane Ogilvy.
Establishment of a Visiting Committtee for the Asylum.

Establishment of a Visiting Committee for the Asylum (consisting of selected Directors) with the task of “visit[ing] the asylum on the afternoon of the first Tuesday in every month, and oftener, if necessary….and exercise[ing] a general superintendence over the whole establishment, receive complaints, inspect the food, clothing etc of the patients, and give the necessary orders”. The need for a Visiting Committee seems to have been prompted by the death of Lady Jane, who hitherto had exercised close supervision of the Institution.
